Dessert is a favorite for many people when they’re dining out, eating at home, or having a family gathering. Did you know that National Dessert Day is coming up this month? It’s time to break out some favorite desserts to celebrate! Consider calling your friends and family over for a gathering and having your favorite desserts on hand.
One thing to consider is making sure your options are friendly to your teeth. Some desserts can wreak havoc on your dental work or your permanent teeth if you’re not careful. Here are some fun and exciting dessert options that you can choose from for your National Dessert Day celebration.
Brownies
Brownies are great anytime and National Dessert Day is no different. You can make a variety of brownie types such as peanut butter brownies, cheesecake brownies, and even double chocolate fudge brownies. The options are endless! These are a great way to get in a dose of chocolate, enjoy the celebration, and be kind to your teeth. You can make low-sugar brownies or bake them on the soft side as to not harm any dental work. Be careful adding nuts however as they can cause a crack in your tooth if they are too hard.
Fruit Desserts
Staying healthy and keeping your mouth happy can be done all at once by incorporating fruit into your desserts. Consider making a cheesecake with a fruit topping, having fruit with whipped cream, or simply slicing apples and having a sweet dip as your dessert. Most fruits are easy to eat and can be kind to your teeth as long as it’s done in moderation. Steer clear of the more acidic type fruits such as oranges and limes as they can wear down the enamel of your teeth.
Cookies
Don’t forget the amazing cookie varieties you can come up with. There’s chocolate chip, peanut butter, and of course, oatmeal raisin options that are all kind to your mouth. You want to make sure that you are careful of the harder type of cookies such as biscotti if you have dental work or crowns. They can cause your work to break or chip and you’ll be back in the dentist office.
Healthy Dessert Options
If you’re trying to watch your sugar intake for your teeth this National Dessert Day, there are some healthy options for you as well. Parfaits can be quite delicious and healthy depending on the ingredients you choose to create them from. You can also make low-carb or no sugar added items using only fruit to sweeten them. There’s also a variety of cakes out there that have no traditional flour that can be good to both your mouth and your waistline.
Just because you may have sensitive teeth or dental work in your mouth, doesn’t mean you have to miss the National Dessert Day celebrations. There are many options out there that can help you to have fun, eat delicious foods, and protect your teeth at the same time. Be sure to always brush your teeth well and floss after enjoying your desserts to make sure that any sweets are taken care of. You don’t want them lingering around causing trouble!
